Late A M Musa, PROVA Founder

Enhanced and sustained socio-economic development and poverty alleviation in Bangladesh through involvement of the rural and urban poor in self-learning programmes to make best use of resources currently within their reach.

Target:

The rural and urban poor primarily in north-western Bangladesh, but also extending throughout the country through collaborative programmes.

Objectives:

• Understand, define and prioritize the constraints to socio-economic uplift faced by the rural and urban poor.
• Organize and implement participatory, group approaches among target beneficiaries for problem solving aimed at economic uplift.
• Enhance profitability of rainfed cropping for the benefit of resource-poor farmers and weaker sections of the rural community.
• Undertake rehabilitation and socio-economic development programmes particularly for Harijans (“untouchable” community), slum dwellers, drug addicts, victims of human trafficking, and the unemployed youth.
